Tredwell backs Adams to succeed
Tredwell backs Adams to succeed

Spinner James Tredwell has backed new Head Coach Jimmy Adams to be a success at Kent County Cricket Club.

The 30 year old heads off to Sri Lanka today after being called up for the England Test squad, some two years after his one and only cap against Bangladesh in March 2010.

Prior to his departure, Tredwell told KSN how he had seen some subtle changes around the St Lawrence Ground brought in by West Indian legend Adams and they were all for the better:

“He’s a very passionate man first and foremost and he’s got some good ideas about how he wants the group to run and function.”

“I’ve been very impressed so far and the group have responded to him. The consistancy we are producing in practice is fantastic and there is a real sense of excitement around the group and I’m really looking forward to the season.”

With Tredwell set to miss the club’s pre-season tour to Antigua, for which the squad head off on Wednesday, he will rely on preparing for Kent’s new season with the England squad, but insists that’s not the worst thing in the world:

“It’s a shame I won’t be going to Antigua with the rest of the guys and it would have been nice to spend more time learning from Jimmy, but at the end of the day every county cricketer aspires to play for their country and hopefully I’ll be back in early April with the club having got off to a good start against Yorkshire.”

Tredwell won’t be the only player missing the start of the season with both Adam Ball and Daniel Bell-Drummond away with the England Under 19 squad in Australia and all-rounder Azhar Mahmood could miss the first couple of months of the season with the Kings Punjab XI in the Indian Premier League.

Already down to a skeleton staff for the start of the new campaign, Adams will have to learn fast the joys of running a county side in the modern cricketing world.
